Giant heather trees are festooned with balls of moss amongst the branches. This region appears relatively unchanged since it was first photographed by Dr Franz Stuhlmann in 1891 and is home to a huge variety of insects, birds and reptiles. On reaching John Matte hut, feeling the worse for wear, we ate a supper of ‘chicken gloop’ and ‘soupaghetti’.
