Early morning at John Matte camp. Having emerged from thick forest the previous day we woke to a glorious view of sunlight hitting the distant Margherita Peak. At minus 5°C, frost covers the grasslands on the banks of the Bujuku River. In great contrast to the previous year’s deluge which prevented a second attempt, we had six days of glorious sunshine.
