Photines
The technique of creating ‘photines’ , originally developed by Steve for a project in collaboration with fine art foundry Pangolin Editions, has continued to fascinate both Steve and Ashley. Bronze sheets are patinated and sensitised with a liquid silver emulsion before the photographic image is developed directly onto the surface of the plate. The photograph emerges from the fusion of patina and development chemicals which, in combination with incidental effects of silver layers, glimpses of raw bronze or brush strokes, cleverly brings together the concepts of image and object.
